Description

Overview

Children have the right to be and feel safe at all times. Talking to children from an early age about safety, their bodies, and how they can protect themselves, is an important part of keeping them safe.

Personal safety, also known as protective behaviours, is a powerful way to teach children about safety, risk taking, and what they can do when they feel unsafe. Children who are confident, assertive and have good support networks are less likely to be at risk of harm or find themselves in dangerous situations. By building awareness of ‘safe’ behaviours, and teaching children empowerment strategies, personal safety aims to promote child resilience; and ultimately reduce child abuse in our community.

To ensure that parents and carers are fully informed and know how to help children to stay safe, you are highly encouraged to attend this seminar.

Who should attend?

Parents and carers of young children aged 0-5. Please do not bring your children to this seminar.

Why should I attend?

  • Become more confident in talking about body safety

  • Create a safe environment and help identify unsafe situations

  • Become a highly effective instructor in personal safety for children

  • Communicate consistent safety messages that match what they are learning at their centre

About ECMS and Child Wise

ECMS is a proudly child-safe organisation that is committed to developing the knowledge and skills of our workforce to ensure that your children learn in a safe environment. Child Wise works closely with ECMS’ network of educators so that the children across our 72 services are provided with personal safety skills and strategies.

The personal safety program builds up children’s resilience and confidence in order for them to problem solve and identify strategies to prevent them from harm, such as how to identify and avoid risky situations or how to speak up and seek help. Studies show that the program is most effective when there is a three-way approach to education – educating teachers, educating parents/carers, and educating children.
