What is D.S.A.M.P?

D.S.A.M.P is the Disabled Surfers Association Mornington Peninsula. We are part of the Disabled Surfers Association Australia, a not-for-profit whose mission is to put “Smiles on Dials” by providing a safe, friendly and fun surfing experience for people of all abilities.

I am a surfer or carer. What do I need to know?

Surfers and Carers: All surfers on the day must have a carer with them at all times.  This is to ensure that our amazing volunteers have the information and support needed to provide the BEST experience possible.  Please make sure you have registered prior to the day of the event.

How can I voulnteer?

Volunteers: We LOVE our volunteers as none of our events would be possible without them!  Many of our volunteers return year after year as the day is as fun for them as it is for our surfers. Check out the next question for a description of available roles and then register via Eventbrite.

What are the various roles?

Please see our socials for more information about the various roles available and what is required of each. A brief overview of the rashies: YELLOW (surfers when in the water); GREY (carers); PINK (beach coordinators); GREEN (beach marshals); RED (team leaders); BLUE (volunteer team).

Is there a cost?

In 2026, there will be no cost for participants.  There will be an option to donate on the day, but it is not necessary.

Do I need a Working with Children check?

As of 2024, all our photographers will be required to have a Working With Children check. This is available at no cost for volunteers but please get in early with your application as it can take time to process. You can apply here: https://www.vic.gov.au/working-with-children-check

Do I need to know how to surf?

Accepted Answer

Nope!  As long as you don’t mind getting wet and salty to help give someone the time of their life, you’re golden!

Do I need to bring any equipment?

We recommend that all volunteers have a wetsuit. You’ll also need to bring a towel, change of clothes, sunscreen, water bottle (water is provided onsite but we aim to be environmentally friendly), hat and snacks/ food (some are provided but it's best to be prepared).

Where are the events held?

Our events our held at the beautiful Point Leo surf beach on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria.

Question 10

Is there an age limit?

Although there is no formal age limit, children under the age of 12 may struggle as it’s a huge day. If your children come along, please be advised that they are 100% your responsibility.

Question 11

Can I go swim or go in the water in the event area?

Accepted Answer

There are no other formal activities organised for the day and swimming in the event area (for surfers, carers and volunteers) is strictly prohibited due to the risk it poses to teams in the water.
