Drawing workshop: with Michael Vale
Join exhibiting artist Michael Vale for an inspired drawing workshop inside MPRG’s main gallery.
Using works from his exhibition, this workshop will invite participants to respond to details within the paintings through drawing and iphone photography. Participants will then be guided through methods for reimagining images through drawing.
Michael will share insights into his creative process - how he builds images from a range of sources, using his imagination to bind diverse elements together. You will experiment with composition, locating and inventing visual pathways and repeated motifs, taking cues from the artworks around you.
Suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to experienced drawers, this session will encourage curiosity, experimentation and resourcefulness.
By the end of the session, participants will have a small collection of drawings and a fresh perspective on how artists observe, interpret and transform the world into images.
Bring your curiosity and willingness to experiment along with any preferred sketch books and/or drawing mediums. MPRG will also supply drawing materials for the session.
Encouraged to bring:
- Large sketchbook (but not too large to hold comfortably!)
- Drawing materials - pencils, pens, erasers, white-out, scissors etc.
- iphone
- MPRG will supply drawing materials for participants who do not have their own. There's no need to purchase especially for the session.
Bookings are essential as numbers are limited.
