About this event

Doonan Open Data Expo - for the community, emerging naturalists, government agencies, land managers and students, to learn together how technology can assist with restoration, rehabilitation, management and planning for the future. There will be industry exhibits and workshops that will show you how to connect with and learn more about nature through technology, citizen science projects and the tools you can use.

Guest Speaker Andrew Skeoch is president of the Australian Wildlife Sound Recording Group, the premier association for nature field recordists in this country, and co-ordinates its biennial workshop which encourages skills and passion in a new generation of enthusiast. Andrew will be sharing ideas, supported by spectacular recordings and visual analysis, as he seeks to address the fundamental question of our human relationship with the living biosphere.

Guest Speaker Stuart Parsons is Professor and Head of the School of Earth, Environmental and Biological Sciences at QUT. Stuart has studied bats throughout the world for the past 30 years and will show us how the development of new technology has allowed a broader audience to experience and study bats with a number of highly valuable global citizen science projects providing important insights into global change. Bat researchers are increasing their reliance on new technologies, and harnessing the power of AI to tell us more about the importance of bats to our global ecosystem.

At the Doonan Open data Expo you will hear other inspiring speakers sharing their knowledge about DRONE technology and natural resource management, water quality monitoring using DATA SENSORS IN FISH, and SATELLITE TRACKING SEA TURTLES on the sunshine coast.

Arrive early for the tree planting to start your day and remember THIS IS A ZERO WASTE EVENT, BYO water bottle, cup and plate.
