MIEACT

For over 25 years MIEACT’s volunteers, who have a Lived Experience of mental ill-health, have shared their stories in schools, workplaces and community groups that build mental health literacy, promote early intervention, reduce stigma, and emphasise recovery.

DoNOHarm

Recognising the risks of sharing potentially distressing content, MIEACT developed the DoNOHarm Framework to empower the community to safely, sustainably and effectively communicate about mental ill?health and other forms of lived experience.

The DoNOHarm framework and training has been embraced by organisations as diverse Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care, Stride Mental Health and Ronald McDonald House Charities to support lived experience sharing, inform workplace psychosocial practices and to foster supportive workplace environments for people with lived experience.

The framework is trauma informed, recovery oriented and has been evaluated by the University of Canberra (2021) as best practice for communication about mental health and Lived Experience.

This workshop will:

  • Empower your employees and volunteers to be more effective communicators within the workplace, with stakeholders, and when engaging with service users.
  • Build line manager understanding and confidence in having difficult conversations.
  • Foster a supportive environment through shared understanding of best practice language.
  • Reduce harmful behaviours through an in-depth understanding of stigma and the impact of our language on those around us.

Please Note:

This is a 'come and try' type workshop aimed at organisational representatives to gain an understanding of DoNOHarm and how it might fit within your teams (maximum 2 representatives from the same organisation).

If you would like to book a DoNOHarm workshop for a group please contact beth.garwood@mieact.org.au to discuss options and how MIEACT can best tailor the workshop to meet your needs.
