Event description

Description

Since its inception in 2016, Docuverse has been aiming to bring together a diverse range of people from independent filmmakers and artists to research-practitioners and industry representatives. With its third iteration, our 2018 symposium will continue to foster these cross-disciplinary conversations that are increasingly necessary to navigate the expanded documentary landscape.

To facilitate these multifaceted conversations our Expanding documentary: Ecologies and dialogues one-day symposium will comprise of three thematic dialogues:

Works-in-progress - practitioners will show and discuss projects ranging from Korsakow to essaying to short documentary
Noticing the unnoticed - two talks and a discussion on the complexity of interactive documentary assemblages
Expanding ecologies of virtual reality - virtual reality will be discussed through the showing of two projects and a talk on how VR becomes a creative treatment of experiences

Joining us for these dialogues will be research-practitioners, including Catherine Gough-Brady and Christine Rogers, who will show and discuss their latest projects. Whilst, academics Adrian Miles and Max Schleser will provoke us with new ways of looking at interactive documentary and virtual reality documentary respectively. Further presentions will include a Skype performance by Anna Wiehl, Daniel Fetzner and Martin Dornberg as well as filmmaker Chris Luscri discussing his ongoing hybrid essay-documentary After Il Contratto.

Through showing, discussing and facilitating conversation on the landscape of expanded documentary, Docuverse 2018 will offer a distinctively Australian lens on how new technologies, practices and projects are changing the way we think about documentary.

Docuverse 2018 will culminate in drinks and nibbles to launch Docuverse's eBook. More to come...

Full schedule will be posted shortly.
