Do you love trying new food and meeting new people?
Are you new to Australia and want to meet more local people OR are you a local who wants to welcome newcomers to the area?

The Docklands Community Welcome Dinner will celebrate the diversity of Docklands through food and connection. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet more people in the Docklands area, share your story and learn about other cultures in a meaningful and fun way. Established Docklands residents, as well as people who are new to Australia, are welcome to come!

Date: Sunday 18th June 2017
Time: Arrival 5pm (dinner to start at 5:30pm)
Location: 107 Victoria Harbour Promenade, Docklands VIC 3008

This Community Welcome Dinner is a collaboration between The Welcome Dinner Project, the City of Melbourne and Library at the Dock. It will be facilitated by Welcome Dinner Project volunteers.

The number of places available is very limited so please do not delay in reserving your free tickets and tell your friends!

WHAT IS THE WELCOME DINNER PROJECT?

The Welcome Dinner Project aims to enable newly arrived people and established Australians to meet one another over a pot-luck shared meal. This project is spreading rapidly throughout Australia, creating a platform for connections between people from diverse cultures!

Welcome
Dinners are always guided by trained Welcome Dinner Project Facilitators so that any language barriers and other differences can be navigated in a safe and welcoming space. Approximately half the participants at any dinner are newly arrived people (migrants, international students or refugees) and half are local Australians.

What you will find at a Welcome Dinner is a rediscovery of our common humanity by sharing our food, talking about our interests and dreams for the future. These interactions create a warm and enjoyable environment where new friendships, community links and supportive connections can develop. This is a great opportunity for people to meet others in their local area, without any barriers.

Whilst we usually run Welcome Dinners in homes around Melbourne, we also organise larger community dinners in collaboration with partners. These are usually held in community spaces and are a wonderful way to celebrate with a larger group of community members and introduce people to the project.
