About this event

Students will design eye-catching patterns using Spirographs. Students will get to play with both hand-held spirographs, which will be sent via the mail, as well as online spirograph simulators. We will uncover some of the mathematics behind the spirals and use our discoveries to determine how different spirals are made.

Mode: Online

Schedule: 1 x 1.5 hr sessions

Suitable for: High-achieving students in Years 3 - 4.

Prerequisites: To participate fully in this program, it is recommended that students are comfortable with the following skills:

  • Equivalent fractions
  • Simplifying fractions
  • Finding lowest common multiples
  • Finding highest common divisors

Required Equipment:

  • A laptop with access to internet and Zoom
  • A device per student that can run the following Spirograph simulator: https://nathanfriend.io/inspirograph/

Note to teachers: This program is in high demand. So that we can allow as many students as possible to participate, we ask that if you wish to book more than 10 students you purchase a group ticket and have students participate via a single Zoom, streamed into the classroom, rather than have students logging on through individual devices.

As a school, if students have already participated in this program, please allow other schools the opportunity to enrol students first.
