About this event

  • 3 hours 30 minutes

In recent years the Mid North and Far North regions of New South Wales experienced catastrophic disasters which deeply impacted our communities and the service system that seeks to support them. Despite not having a formal role in disaster response, the coordinated efforts of HNC and primary health care providers across the region ensured continued access to critical health services for the community.

To further support and enhance the Primary Care workforce’s resilience and preparedness for future disaster shocks and stresses, Healthy North Coast has partnered with ResilientCo to deliver a series of in-person disaster capacity building workshops.

These interactive workshops will support you, your business and the local primary health care system, providing practical outputs for attendees through facilitated business continuity planning, a shared understanding of state mandated arrangements as they relate to primary care, an overview of what’s been developed and implemented locally in response to the 2022 events, and international best practice preparedness testing through a disaster scenario exercise.

Tea, coffee and breakfast will be provided.

Learning objectives

  • Enable a more coordinated system in event of disaster, by supporting primary health providers to prepare, plan and implement business continuity and resilience activities.
  • Enhance clarity of roles and responsibilities of the local primary healthcare workforce when responding to disasters and adverse events.
  • Increase understanding of mandated disaster support arrangements and how the local primary health care system fits within these.
  • Provide international best practice for disaster preparedness through disaster scenario exercises to test emergency response plans, explore challenges, management opportunities and identify areas for improvement.
  • Provide a supporting reflective space for primary health providers to share learnings from past disaster events.
