Disability Services Expo 2024 - (Yarrabah School, Aspendale)

Yarrabah School caters for students with intellectual, physical and/or multiple disabilities. Our purpose is to provide an individualised and safe student centred learning environment that promotes active learning, encourages adventure, independence and self-esteem maximising student potential. Our students are aged from 2.8 years to 18 years.

Each year we host a Parent Expo onsite in our school hall and welcome visitors from outside our school community. Kindly share this event with friends, family and colleagues. All welcome!

We are excited to share our line-up of guest speakers and workshop presenters. Workshops will be held in break out rooms, located within the school hall.

Tickets are $5 each and include morning tea and a catered lunch. Please advise of any dietary requirements. Gluten free and Vegan options are provided.


Program:

This year our new format sees the morning dedicated to workshops and the afternoon (12pm-3pm) dedicated to stallholders. Workshops will take place in breakout spaces, accessed via the hall. Stalls will be set up within the hall itself.

9:00 - 9:15am: Event opens/Welcome (School hall)

9:15 - 10am: Sam Harris (Yarrabah Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader) speaking about self-care for parents/carers. Sam will be joined by parents/carers talking about their self-care stories.

10am - 10:30am: Workshop 1 (3 options - guests to choose 1)

  1. Sam Harris - Anxiety
  2. Speech Service Team - Communication
  3. Occupational Therapy Service Team - Routines, visuals, regulation, bedtime routines

10:30am - 11am: Morning Tea

L'Arte Central is a Social Traders Certified Social Enterprise Cafe, Florist & Art Space. Two Baristas from L'Arte Central will be serving hot beverages from 10.30am-1.30pm. Yarrabah students will be providing the baked treats for morning tea.

11am-11.40am: Workshop 2 (3 options - guests to choose 1)

  1. Little Dreamer (support for young carers/siblings)
  2. Teacher Perspectives: Early years to future pathways - a journey through Yarrabah Schooling.
  3. Brotherhood of St. Laurence (Primary school aged NDIS information)

11.45am-12.30pm: Workshop 3 (3 options - guests to choose 1)

  1. Office of the Public Advocate (Guardianship and Administration)
  2. Making a Difference Dingley (Financial Counselling and Emergency Relief)
  3. Brotherhood of St. Laurence (Secondary School aged NDIS information)

12pm: Stalls open until 3pm

12:30pm: Lunch served (Catering from the Little Coffee Place, Chelsea Heights)

3pm: Event concludes

Stallholders include:

Post-school pathway providers from South-East Melbourne and surrounds

Disability services, recreation providers, and support agencies, financial counsellor, community organisations, carer service providers and advocates, OSHC provider, NDIS.
