We are pleased to host this presentation by two excellent Disability Advocates from Midlas, Rita Kleinfeld-Fowell and Jenny James, who will present us with information on Disability Discrimination, covering the following topics:

• An introduction on Midlas

• Disability discrimination and relevant legislation

• Direct and indirect discrimination and examples

• Organisations’ responsibilities

• Self-Advocacy

• Q&A – including NDIS

About the Presenters:

Rita Kleinfeld-Fowell is a Disability Rights Lawyer with 18 years post-qualifying experience. Being both deaf and blind Rita is supported by her Guide dog Ivy, is a mum to her 15 year old son and has been married for 19 years.

Rita previously worked as an NDIS Planner for four years and has two Masters Research Law degrees: Disability Discrimination; and Social Services versus the NHS. Rita's PhD in Law is on the definition of disability discrimination. Rita was also involved with Control UK for several years, as well as involved with promoting directed funding within the care system.

Jennifer James has a health background, originally trained as a registered general nurse in the UK and also worked as a Hospital Welfare Officer there.

Jenny has a degree in Social Policy and Administration (Hons), and a Masters in HR. and was a Planner for the NDIS for over 2 years.
