About this event

TAFE Queensland, Coomera Creative and HOTA, Home of the Arts in association with the Study Gold Coast Education Vision Fund presents DIGITREK 21.

Join digital and new media artists, Nicholas Aloisio-Shearer, Grayson Cooke and Alinta Krauth, and HOTA Gallery curator, Bradley Vincent for the DIGITREK 21 panel discussion and professional development program.

Bradley Vincent is the Curator at HOTA Gallery on Queensland’s Gold Coast. Prior to this he was Director at Sydney’s ALASKA Projects where he worked with artists at the forefront of Australian arts to deliver projects that ran the gamut of contemporary practice. As a curator he is particularly interested in both historical and contemporary Australian art which operates through narrative and in the potential for video, performance and the digital to continue to explore this realm. Increasingly, he is interested in the ways in which public gallery spaces can best provide meaningful experiences for diverse and growing audiences from all sectors of society.

Nicholas Aloisio-Shearer is an artist and independent curator whose practice is concerned with the digital conditions of contemporary life. His practice engages with the cultural functions of imaging technologies and examines how networked cultures make use of the history of representation. He has exhibited in a number of galleries including UNSW Galleries and Milani Gallery, and artist-run spaces including First Draft (Sydney), Kudos Gallery (Sydney) and Bus Projects (Melbourne). Nicholas graduated with Honours from a Bachelor of Design in Photography and Situated Media at UTS in 2014 and in 2019 completed a Masters of Fine Art (Research) at UNSW Art and Design.

Grayson Cooke: Born in New Zealand and based in Australia, Grayson Cooke is an interdisciplinary scholar and media artist, Associate Professor of Media and Chair of Creative Arts at Southern Cross University. Grayson has exhibited and performed at major galleries and festivals internationally including the Japan Media Arts Festival, WRO Media Art Biennale and Imagine Science Film Festival in New York, and he has published widely in academic journals. He holds an interdisciplinary PhD from Concordia University in Montreal.

Alinta Krauth is a multidisciplinary new media artist and interaction designer. She is also a researcher of interactive art for more-than-human situations and spaces. Her current focuses include the use of mobile interactive devices and sensor–based art as a response to more–than–human agency and animal inclusivity. Much of her work involves ecological themes and scientific fieldwork alongside ecology experts and wildlife rescue organisations. Selected recent installations of her creative works have been seen in GentleMonster, Seoul South Korea 2019, The Glucksman Gallery, Cork Ireland 2019, The Powerhouse, Sydney Australia 2018, Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule, Zurich Switzerland 2019, Gallery 3.14 Bergen, Norway 2018, and Art Laboratory Berlin, Berlin Germany 2017.
