Event description

Description

Aspiring projection artists, digital curators and artisans will converge at the next illuminart Digital Placemakers symposium, to be held 19-22 October in Victor Harbor South Australia.

Deepen your knowledge of projection art, digital media professional practice, and the digital media commissioning process, and gain hands on experience building content for a permanent projection system.

This symposium is the second in a series of four training programs in the advanced skills of projection mapping, digital storytelling and placemaking, presented by the illuminart team.

The program takes participants through the detailed and complex process of devising and producing content for a permanent architectural projection system.

The symposium will offer two separate, interwoven streams - the first being tailored to the needs of aspiring Digital Curators who need to gain an indepth knowledge of the procedures involved in commissioning digital projects, especially those with an unusual format or outcome. The second stream is designed for the needs of Digital Artisans - media makers and creatives who aspire to create content for unusual contexts such as architectural projection.

The symposium packages illuminart's knowledge and systems into a set of procedures, and presented with a number of hands on activities to use software and see the outcomes publicly projected onto the Victor Harbor permanent projection system.

An exciting aspect of the program is the announcement of two commissions being offered by City of Victor Harbor. Participants of the symposium will be guided to develop their proposal and pitch for these opportunities, which include a cash payment and mentorship for the successful proposals.

The symposium program also includes project development workshops to help explore and build the future Port to Port production, a large scale digital media projection that will be produced collaboratively by creative partners around SA. This will involve the recruitment of several new Leading Lights, who will be mentored by illuminart over the next three years to develop digital storytelling and placemaking skills, and be supported to produce work in their own community. The Leading Lights positions are being advertised here: http://illuminart.com.au/announcement/new-training-opportunities-in-the-leading-lights-program-announced/

The Symposium will be held from the 19th to 22nd October 2018.

It has been made possible through the partnership with City of Victor Harbor and funding of the Port to Port project through the Australia Council for the Arts.
