DermClub for Vets -Equine Event - All over the pruritic horse
Date and time
This lecture will cover the logical approach to pruritus and update your treatment options for those difficult to treat cases
About this event
DermClub for Vets with Dr Janet Littlewood
Pruritus is a common presentation in equine medicine which can be challenging for both veterinarian and owner.
Causes include ectoparasites (mites, lice) and hypersensitivity disorders, most commonly to biting insects (midges, flies) but also to environmental allergens (dust and forage mites, barn dust, moulds, pollens). However, other conditions that may cause pruritus or signs that can be confused should not be overlooked, including infections, autoimmune diseases and more rarely internal organ dysfunction.
In a rational approach to the pruritic horse, history and physical examination are very important as a guide to choosing diagnostic tests. This lecture will cover the logical approach to pruritus and update your treatment options for all those difficult to treat cases.
