Event description

Description

Last year, InnovationAus.com held the inaugural Cyber Security: the Leadership Imperative forum in Sydney, focussing the conversation on how government, business and education were addressing the cyber security skills gap. The result was a standing-room-only event with honest and lively debate on the best way forward to approach the creation of a national framework for cyber leadership development.

This year, InnovationAus.com is shifting the focus – and is putting the spotlight on the crucial role all stakeholders play, working together. Cyber Leaders – The Collaborative Imperative forum will look at recent initiatives that government and the private sector have taken together to bridge the skills gaps, evangelise CEOs and create invaluable networks of trusted peers.

Australia’s National Cyber Security Strategy was laid out two years ago but we have a long way to go for leaders in government, industry and academia to be more open, reach out and come together to align with the strategy’s overarching goal in stemming the rising tide of digital crime.

With a morning jam packed with keynote speakers and panel discussions, the Cyber Leaders 2018 Sydney forum will broach some of the most critical issues which urgently need to be addressed - yet to date have been widely neglected:

  • Breaking barriers to a united effort – why is it so difficult for companies to pool knowledge and openly share experiences – when it is a benefit to them and their industry as a whole? Are the consequences still seen and valued as greater than the benefits? How can we promote a culture that fosters trust in information sharing?

  • With CEO’s the primary individuals accountable for data breaches and their losses – where do they sit in the overarching National Cyber Security Strategy?

  • How do we address the reality that most institutions in our society are run by individuals with virtually no background in cyber security and few of them understand what ‘cyberspace’ really is?

  • Has the ASX 100 Cyber Health Check Report had any impact on organisations’ cyber risk prevention and response measures since its launch a year ago? Do “voluntary health checks” work?

  • The expertise to develop policy – are we relying on too much IT expertise to drive the policy agenda or not enough?

  • The government’s newly-announced national plan for cyber studies – can its framework be scaled across all institutions throughout the country and how is industry collaborating with its advancement?

Who is this forum for?

  • Federal and State government policy makers in cyber security and in education

  • CEOs, Board Members and Senior Executives who have ultimate accountability and responsibility for the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information their company retains on customers and clients, intellectual property and financial data

  • Industry and Government CISOs

  • IT Security experts

  • VCs and Deans from leading academic institutions
