WORKSHOP OVERVIEW:A series of workshops targeted at individuals or small businesses who want to further their understanding of cultural safety and how it impacts our daily life.

TOPICS AND DATES

Thursday 16th June 2022: Cultural Safety and MeA look into how to build a culturally safe life for yourself and those around you.

  • Unpacking our inbuilt implicit bias and how it impacts the way we
  • interact with others.
  • Understanding microaggression and gaslighting. How it manifests in our day-to-day life.

Thursday 21st July 2022: Developing a safe intercultural safe workplace. Is your space culturally safe?

  • The value of adding cultural safety within your strategic plan.
  • Reporting processes. What strategies can you put in place to ensure staff members feel comfortable and confident to speak up when they experience conversations that aren’t culturally safe.
  • Understanding EMOTIONAL TAX and what that means for your business/organization.
  • Does your sick leave policy cover mental health days? Does racial battle fatigue count as such?
  • What are your measures of accountability?

Thursday 18th August 2022: Navigating your cultural safety while at work. (FOR CALD EMPLOYEES AND STAFF)

A workshop intends to be a space for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People Of Color) staff members to share their experiences of felling culturally unsafe at work through guided questionnaires and collectively creating strategies on how to protect them

  • Ways Microaggressions have manifested at work.
  • Code-switching and how it impacts how you show up at work.
  • Creating boundaries
  • Therapy and selfcare
  • How do we call it out?
  • The paradox of being the ‘first’.

Thursday 22nd September 2022: Cultural Safety and Children Understanding cultural safety while engaging with BIPOC children/teenagers and young adults.

  • ‘I don’t see colour’. Understanding the power of your words and the message it conveys.
  • Exploring racism and how it impacts on one’s sense of belonging,
  • self-reflection and the complexities of intersectionality.
  • Understanding the impact of intercultural bias
  • Strategies and resources provided.
