Join our discussion of books with a cult following and other literary classics.

Join our discussion of books with a cult following and other literary classics. We'll unpack the books that refuse to be forgotten and have gained social notoriety over the years. They may not have been instant classics, but they have made their impact on the literary scene, featuring titles available to borrow from our physical or e-collections.

If you're curious why Salman Rushdie caused controversy or you've never read the third Brontë sister and would like to discuss similar titles, join us in this easy-going book club!

The Club meets monthly on the third Wednesday of the month from 6.30-7.30pm. Sign up once to attend all sessions in 2026. Dates are as follows:

  • You only need to register once to be able to attend the program until 18 November 2026 .
  • Participants need to be able to attend most discussion meetings.
  • Please notify organisers if you are unable to attend. If a member does not attend three (3) meetings without notification, your place will be made available for a new member.
  • You must be a Library member to attend this event. Library membership is free and you can join online.
  • Your ticket can be cancelled by the organiser at any time without further notice.
  • Limited to one ticket per person. Duplicate tickets booked will be cancelled.
  • Please cancel your ticket if you do not wish to attend the book club anymore. This will enable others to participate.
  • Please arrive 10 minutes early to allow the event to run on time.
  • Due to the safety and enjoyment of participants, we are unable to admit latecomers to the room after the start time.
  • Patrons who fail to comply with the Terms and Conditions set out above will have their tickets cancelled.
