Creative Watercolour: Flow, Light, Layers - 2 Day Workshop 2026.

Murringo Community HallMurringo, NSW
Wednesday, Mar 18, 2026 from 10 am to 3 pm AEDT
Overview

Dive deep into negative painting with watercolour. Carve form from light and shadow, explore value structure, and bring depth to still life

'Creative Watercolour: Flow, Light, Layers' with Diane Goodman is a two-day (March 18th & 19th 2026) workshop held in the beautiful country village of Murringo, NSW. A 2026 Hilltops Off the Beaten Track Art & Cultural Trail event, this workshop is also in partnership with the Murringo Barracks Gallery. It is the second in a series of 2 x two-day watercolour workshops.

Workshop Details

This immersive workshop takes your watercolour practice into the world of negative painting. Over two focused days, you will:

🎨 develop techniques to help you determine the tonal value and consistency of watercolour washes.

🌿 explore ways to create a variety of edge types to add depth and interest to your paintings.

🌈 plan your colour palette and wash consistency prior to starting to paint.

🌾 learn how to build form through tonal value and transparency, carving shapes from the spaces around colourful, textured, loose underpaintings.

🖼 learn about timing, glazing, and multi-pass negative painting to create depth and sculptural dimension, culminating in a layered still life project on Day 2.

This workshop is ideal for painters with some prior experience who want to elevate their control, refine their technique, and explore a more sophisticated, atmospheric approach to watercolour. For those with limited experience, it is an ideal workshop to undertake following Workshop 1 ('Watercolour Foundations: from Washes to Expression' on 16th & 17th March 2026) in this series - also available via Eventbrite.
