Creative concepts: Conceptual thinking for designers and artists

Interactive talk by Dr Sarah Rice

Canberra poet and art theory lecturer Dr Sarah Rice presents an interactive lecture about what concepts motivate and activate art creation. How can concepts drawn from philosophy, literature and creative writing for example inspire a creative practice in the arts? The talk is suitable for artists, craftspeople, designers, and hobbyists at any stage of their practice, and anyone interested in thinking about how artists think with their hands.

Sarah Rice wrote the poem You – Matter in response to the works in Obsessed: Compelled to make, an exhibition currently showing at the Australian Design Centre featuring the work of 14 Australian artist / makers. The poem was commissioned by Australian Design Centre and Red Room Poetry.

When: Thursday 15 February 2018, 6-8pm (talk runs for 50 minutes)

Where: Australian Design Centre, 101-115 William Street, Darlinghurst
