Description
Sunday June 12, 2pm - 4.30pm
Join Michelle Michau-Crawford (2013 Jolley Prize winner and author of Leaving Elvis and Other Stories) for this unmissable workshop!
Place is more than a tidy backdrop to set your story. A strong sense of place can help bring a narrative to life, and have a significant effect on how a reader experiences the story. Eudora Welty, in her essay Place in Fiction, says place constitutes the essence of a story, it is the “gathering spot of all that has been felt.” In this 21/2 hour workshop we will consider strategies to enhance our own writing in order to enrich the sense of place. By drawing from the five senses, memories and emotions, we will undertake practical exercises to develop a more textured sense of place in a piece of writing.
*While Michelle plans to focus on fiction writing, these techniques and strategies will be useful to those engaged in life-writing or other non-fiction.
$35 FAWWA/KSP members, $45 non-members (plus Eventbrite processing fee). Tea and coffee provided. Bring your own laptops and/or writing implements.
