Create a video using oral history recordings and images
Event Information
About this Event
Learn how to make a video by combining audio files from interviews with relevant photographs, images and sound effects.
Have you ever wanted to make a video from oral history interviews?
Are your oral history recordings sitting in an archive, not being showcased?
Have you ever wanted to make use of interview files for displays or presentations, or to put on a website?
Would you like to make a digital story?
Have you interviewed family members and would like to create a special video for them using the audio and family photos?
If so, this workshop is for you.
This hands-on workshop will:
- teach you how to use PowerPoint software to create videos (or digital stories) using audio-only interviews, sound effects, music, photographs and other images, and
- provide ideas about how to use your videos and digital stories.
During the workshop, you will practise making a digital video using files provided. You do not need to provide your own audio files or images.
Detailed workshop notes will be provided.
What you need to participate in the workshop:
Workshop handouts are provided in advance to each participant, as well as an illustrated guide to installing and using the meeting software. For those who are new to using online meeting software, I am happy to run practice sessions so that you are confident using the software before the workshop.
You will need a computer/tablet with internet connection to participate in the online workshop.
It is preferable to have a headset (headphones with microphone), but the speaker and microphone on your device are also sufficient.
If you have two devices available (or two screens), this will be an advantage (but is not essential) so that you can display the video meeting software on one, and use PowerPoint on the other.
You will need to have Microsoft PowerPoint software installed to create the video (digital story).
After we have received your online registration and payment, we will provide you with a link to download sample audio and image files to use in the workshop.
Assumed knowledge:
It is recommended that participants have some experience using Microsoft PowerPoint software, as well as being confident with basic computer functions such as opening files, copying and pasting, and locating files on a computer.
Workshop presenter:
Your presenter is Dr Sally Stephenson (listeningtothepast.com.au). Sally has worked professionally as an oral historian, researcher and writer for more than fifteen years. She has used oral history to produce documentaries, interpretive panels in museums and national parks, heritage walks, and for sound installations in museums. She has also used oral history interviews to provide information about the living history of places for urban renewal and landscape design projects (for example at Tonsley and Bowden in South Australia). She has undertaken projects for Australian Federal and State Government departments, local councils, the State Library of South Australia, the South Australian Maritime Museum, local museums and community groups.
Sally has presented introductory and advanced workshops (in person and online) on a range of topics for Oral History Australia SA/NT, and regularly receives excellent reviews.
