Join a masterclass with Kenji Uranishi and Tania Rollond. The artists will demonstrate key techniques and discuss the influences and approaches to their work. This masterclass is for artists, makers or anyone interested in gaining an insight into the work of these two highly acclaimed ceramic artists.
<A HREF="http://taniarollond.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Tania Rollond</A> and <A HREF="http://www.kenjiuranishi.com.au/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Kenji Uranishi</A>'s work comes from a place of contemplation and reflection in response to the environment around them. The breathtakingly beautiful work of these two highly regarded ceramic artists is the inception point to begin deconstructing their detailed processes.
Kenji Uranishi is a Japanese-born, Australian-based artist whose work draws upon the longstanding traditions of ceramics in Japanese art and culture. Kenji studied at the Nara College of Fine Arts and upon graduation, worked mostly with stoneware clay, exhibiting throughout Japan—from small gallery spaces to large municipal museums. Since moving to Australia in 2004, Kenji’s interest in tradition has increasingly worked in dialogue with the contemporary. The move also signalled a critical shift in his practice as he began working predominantly with porcelain, hand building translucent white, often architecturally inspired objects.
Tania Rollond completed a Bachelor of Arts in Design at Curtin University before discovering her passion for working with clay. She moved to Sydney to study Ceramics at the National Art School from 1997 to 2000, and then established her studio in the Southern Highlands of NSW, where she has been living and making work for solo and group exhibitions in Australia and overseas for the last decade. In 2011, Tania completed her Master of Fine Art (by Research) in Drawing at UNSW. In addition to her studio practice, Tania has been teaching since 2001. Her experience includes the University of NSW, TAFE and Sturt Craft Centre. She is currently a part-time Lecturer in Ceramics at the National Art School, Sydney, where she has worked since 2004.
