Event description
Seeking Expressions of Interest for Consultation Forums - Residential aged care: Proposed alternative models for allocating places

About this Event

As part of the 2018-19 Budget More Choices for a Longer Life package, in-principle support was provided for the proposal to move from the current approach of allocating residential aged care places, to providers through the Aged Care Approvals Round (ACAR), to alternative arrangements that support greater consumer choice. Prior to progressing to an alternative model, a detailed analysis of the potential impacts of such an arrangement on all stakeholders is to be completed.

No decisions have been made about any changes to the ACAR, implementation or transition arrangements at this time.

A discussion paper setting out two proposed alternative models for allocating residential aged care places is available for comment on the Department of Health Consultation Hub. Closing date for online responses is Friday 13 September 2019.

Consultation forums in capital cities and teleconference discussions for non-metropolitan areas will be held during the consultation period for the discussion paper. Expressions of interest (EOI) to attend forums in each capital city are currently being sought. Stakeholders in non-metropolitan areas can express an interest in participating in separate teleconference discussions.

Dates for forums in capital cities are below. Dates/timings of teleconference discussions will be advised once EOIs are considered.

Dates of consultation forums in capital cities:

  • Perth: Monday 12 August 2019
  • Canberra: Wednesday 14 August 2019
  • Sydney: Tuesday 20 August 2019
  • Adelaide: Monday 26 August 2019
  • Melbourne: Wednesday 28 August 2019
  • Hobart: Friday 30 August 2019
  • Brisbane: Wednesday 4 September 2019
  • Darwin: Friday 6 September 2019

EOI submissions close Monday 15 July 2019.

Please note that places are limited and submitting an EOI does not guarantee an invitation. All EOIs will be considered to ensure a diverse range of stakeholders have an opportunity to contribute. The Department will not cover the cost of travel or accommodation to attend discussion forums.

A summary of key themes identified during the forums will be published shortly following completion of the consultation period.
