The key timelines, contract clause wording, strategies and best practice when preparing or defending a construction contract claim. Includes Security of Payment and other common claims/disputes.


1. Need to understand how the Dispute Resolution clause operates (time bars, escalation mechanisms, different types of dispute resolution forum)

2. Understanding the dual track of the Contract Dispute Resolution clause and Security of Payment

3. Understanding the key timeframes for Security of Payment claims and responses

4. Understanding self-help opportunities under the Contract – the right to set off/ rights to have recourse to security

5. Claims preparation – good documentation, file organisation and the ability to access it is key. The importance of contemporaneous records / minutes

6. Claims preparation – the importance of witnesses

7. Use and proper instruction of experts – the distinction between a ‘clean’ and a ‘dirty’ expert
