Free training

Creating safe, connected communities begins with understanding and compassion for self and others. This free, evidence-based training provides practical strategies to recognise emotional distress, reduce stigma, and understand how everyday actions can make a difference. By the end of the training, you will have the knowledge and confidence to support yourself and others, fostering wellbeing across families, workplaces, and communities.


What you will leave with:

Practical tools to boost your emotional wellbeing and resilience.

Positive coping strategies for stress and distress.

Knowledge of how to create your own Wellbeing and Safety Plan.

Confidence to support others with compassion, and empathy.

What makes this session different?

It’s evidence-based and designed for everyday life. You will learn how to spot signs of emotional distress, break down myths and stigma, and respond compassionately to yourself and others.

Training Details:

Duration: 3 hours

Cost: Free

Funded by: South Australian Government’s Drought Response

Delivered by: Preventive Health SA

Prior knowledge: None required

Skills you will gain:

  • Understand the myths, stigma and barriers to access and support.
  • Learn about the scale of the problem in South Australia, and the ways anyone can help make a difference.
  • Learn simple distress reducing techniques and practical skills to talk with someone in emotional distress and guide them to the right supports.
  • Understand the importance of factors like compassion and hope.
  • Knowledge of the latest evidence and research in suicide prevention.
  • Skills to create a personal Wellbeing and Safety Plan.

Meal included.

A meal is served at each event from 5:30pm for a 6:15pm training start.
Training will finish at 9:30pm or before.
