Composition Basics

Beginners.

Too often we start creating without much of a plan – be it photography, sketching, painting or collage. Nothing wrong with creative expression, but there are some valuable tricks and tips for making that next piece of artwork ‘pop’!

This class will introduce you to a range of useful layout techniques that some people do intuitively, but most of us have a hit and miss approach. We’ll look at how famous artists, designers and photographers use these principles to compose their work. We’ll experiment using scale, dynamic, perspective and contrast. Finally, we’ll work on the practice of drawing a range of thumbnails (small preliminary sketches) to plan how our final compositions could work best. You’ll come out of this class with a whole new bag of tricks and a new way of looking at things!
