gawaymbanha (Wiradjuri; 'Tell to come, welcome'),The Henderson, is artists for artists, 100% Wiradjuri, First Nations owned and we are self funded, operating within an empathic, self-determinate model of enterprise. As such we rely on sales of product and fee for service to fund our venture.We offer our attitude, example, standards, mindset, strategies, values, vision to our cohort, supporters and greater community.Our predominant focus is to support, promote, manage, exhibit, develop, advocate on behalf of, educate and mentor artists and audiences who would otherwise not have the opportunity.We are specifically focused on working with First Nations artists, artists who are, or who were prisoners, first time exhibitors, and a diverse cohort of First Nations and non First nations artists outside of these demographics, at local, state and international levels, whose work we love and for whom we want success.To the families of our cohort, we welcome you to feel at home at the gallery, and to come and sit with the works of your loved ones whenever you are able. Private sittings/viewings for families, where practicable, will be available once negotiated.It is our intention that The Henderson is birrang (Wiradjuri; Journey to another place), for our visitors, members, staff, artists and families, that it is a place where you feel you belong and that belongs to you.The brief for our cafe is 'seriously, consistently great coffee, food, service, and experience' and that's exactly what we provide.We operate under the premise that art, in any of it's forms, is never completely 'learned/mastered', and as such approach all aspects of our work as practising artists.The 2nd floor of The Henderson, is almost entirely devoted to education. We have a steady stream of inquiry regarding our classes from private parties, corporate sector, nfp/community and education and will begin to deliver those streams very soon.We've also had a steady stream of inquiry around hiring of space both in the gallery areas and in the education spaces and we'll be making those available to private parties as well as to community organisations for events/meetings/training days etc.

The Henderson

With the dust mostly settled, our cafe and gallery spaces are now open, up and running. So, we are now focusing on cranking up activity in our public education space. To that end we are inviting all our supporters/interested parties to attend our first introductory art class, on us. Our two principal, practising artists, Robert Henderson and Wayne Weaver will be running the event which means you can count on an afternoon that will involve a lot of interaction, and insights into the practises of these two artists. Participants who are interested in enroling in further lessons will be able to sign on during/at the end of the event. Robert and Wayne will get a good feel of where the group is at in their practise/progress as artists and will tailor the later classes accordingly. Absolute beginners are more than welcome and will be absolutely looked after. Part of the event will include Robert offering a visual and spoken storyline/insight of his practise in producing at least two of his three Archibald Prize entries as performed at his recent Archibald Prize preview event to solid acclaim. It promises to be a really unique event that will capitalise on the energy, service and space of The Henderson.

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
No ID requirements however, participants need to be 16yo or over to attend.
 
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
Street parking is very limited around here, however, South Bank Train Station is approx 6 minutes walk from us on flat ground. South Bank is very well serviced by all forms of public transport.  For those that wish to drive, we will negotiate an event flat rate with the local undercover carpark and post it on https://www.facebook.com/thehendersongallery/  
What can/can't I bring to the event?
We offer a great range of coffee, cakes, savory bakes and cold drink to purchase onsite.
