Community Tree Planting Day – Help us Restore Boorowa River!

Join the Rivers of Carbon team and other volunteers for a free community tree planting day along the Boorowa River. Lunch included.

<h3>Join the Rivers of Carbon team, Boorowa Community Landcare Group, Birdlife Australia and Hilltops Council members for a community planting day on the Boorowa River.</h3> The planting day is an opportunity for you to get your hands dirty, planting a tree or shrub to enhance the amenity and aesthetics of the Boorowa River Walk. Learn about the unique role that native plants have in supporting native fauna, including the Superb Parrot and Southern Pygmy Perch. The planting day is an opportunity to meet local representatives from council and Landcare and learn about how revegetation projects improve habitat connectivity and biodiversity. <h4>What to expect:</h4>Starting at 10am we will be demonstrating how to plant native trees and shrubs, then join in to plant a tree or shrub.Join us for some short talks about Landcare, birds and biodiversity. With giveaways and information about native plants, water bugs, the Southern Pygmy Perch and Superb Parrot. Chat to the Local Landcare Coordinator Amber Kelly, Paul Russell from Birdlife Australia, representatives from council and Jed Pearson from Waterwatch and Rivers of Carbon.After that we will have a sausage sizzle or light lunch for everyone to enjoy. <h3>Meet the Speakers</h3>Amber Kelly is the Landcare Coordinator from the Boorowa Community Landcare Group. Amber is a passionate advocate for Landcare, with a young family and sheep and cattle grazing operation. She is a guiding hand for local Landcare projects. Boorowa Community Landcare Group currently hosts community-based workshops, field days and volunteer tree planting weekends. They are involved in Superb Parrot monitoring and have worked with Hilltops Council to create Red Hill Reserve, to protect a valuable remnant of Box Gum Grassy Woodland within the town.

Paul Russell is the ACT-Yass Birds on Farms Project Officer at BirdLife Australia.

Jed Pearson is a Rivers of Carbon and Waterwatch ACT Project Officer. Jed is an avid conservationist with a background in agriculture and project management. Coming from a rural community, he brings his love for rural Australia, our unique natural landscapes and passion for river ecology to conservation and land management projects around the ACT.

Alex James is the Rivers of Carbon Boorowa Project Officer. She is an enthusiastic advocate for farmers and communities embracing the challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss. She is a community engagement specialist, bringing the science of river restoration and biodiversity conservation to individuals and groups through webinars, field days and river restoration plans.

<h3>What to bring:</h3> - Sturdy walking shoes and clothes suitable for planting- Wet weather gear- A pair of gloves if you have any- A water bottle <h3>Event and dietary details</h3>The event location and meeting point will be sent via email.This is a free event but please register so we can cater for everyone. When you register let us know if you have any dietary requirements or bring your own food.Children are welcome at this event, but they must always be under your direct supervision due to the proximity of the Boorowa River. Please register everyone you intend to bring individually, including children, so we can provide adequate catering. Note: Any registrations after 12pm on Thurs, 19 September will need to self-cater as we will have finalised catering for the event. <h3>About Rivers of Carbon Boorowa</h3>Rivers of Carbon Boorowa is a community project, with a vision of protecting and enhancing water quality in the Boorowa region.
