Community of Practice Volunteer/Unpaid Facilitator Program

Do you facilitate a carer support group as a volunteer who is unpaid?

If so, come along and join our Community Of Practice Volunteer/Unpaid Facilitator Program

Communities of practice are groups of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly.*

Carers Victoria offers two programs. If you are a volunteer/unpaid and responsible for organising and/or facilitating a carer support group, this one is for you Volunteer/Unpaid Facilitator Program.

If you are employed by an organisation and are responsible for organising and/or facilitating a carer support group, you should register for our other program Employed/Paid Facilitator Program.

Carers Victoria works closely with carer support group facilitators and know that you want practical skills and ongoing opportunities to connect with your peers. We have established a Community of Practice for carer support group facilitators, across Victoria that will meet every two months throughout the year.

These sessions will focus on sharing experience, skills, and knowledge. Participants are encouraged to attend every session to build relationships and connections. Each session will focus on a specific topic based off feedback received from our participants.

Topics could include:

  • Ways to get the money you need
  • Building relationships within the group (including facilitation skills)
  • Boundaries for facilitators and within the group.
  • Group dynamics
  • Ways to connect face to face and online, including icebreaker activities and engaging speakers to attend you group.
  • Leadership and succession planning
  • Supportive communication for non-counsellors (e.g. listening, reflecting back and self-care).

Who should attend
