Communicating in Recovery Workshop

Communicating in Recovery Workshop

Yalawanyi GanyaTaree South, NSW
Wednesday, Mar 18 from 10 am to 4 pm AEDT
Overview

A workshop to build recovery skills for staff and community groups supporting residents after the May 2025 flood event.

This workshop is for all staff and community organisations involved in disaster recovery.

From communication teams, project managers, frontline workers, community development staff, mental health workers, to people supporting diverse communities, and anyone working directly with impacted residents.

It strengthens capability across agencies supporting recovery from the May 2025 flood event.

The workshop focuses on strengthening the ability of council staff and community organisations to communicate clearly and respectfully with disaster‑impacted communities. It supports social recovery by promoting communication approaches that build trust, reduce confusion, and create safer, more inclusive interactions.

Participants will gain trauma‑aware, strengths‑based communication tools that can be used throughout all stages of recovery.

The workshop will build shared capability across local systems, ensuring staff and partners can deliver clear, consistent, and empathetic information that contributes to a coordinated, community‑powered recovery.

We will also be looking ahead, exploring how we can work better together in future events through strong communication, collaboration, and shared capacity building.

When: Wednesday 18 March
Time: 10am-4pm
Where: Council Chambers, Yalawanyi Ganya, 2 Biripi Way, Taree
