About this event

Please note: Ticketing for this event will close at 12pm on Thursday 13 June 2024.

The City Botanic Gardens site played a vital role from the first colonial settlement in Brisbane. When the Botanic Gardens were established in 1828, first curator Walter Hill devoted much of his effort to supporting Queensland’s agricultural development.

This guided walk encounters plants, buildings and landmarks, that are reminders of colonial times. We will hear the voice of Walter Hill describing the projects that made him one of Queensland’s most significant pioneers.

It is now just over 200 years since Governor Thomas Brisbane chose this section of the Brisbane River for Moreton Bay settlement – the first in what is now Queensland.

The guided walk will be led by the Volunteer Guides of the City Botanic Gardens.

Requirements: This walk includes moderate physical activity, including walking slightly longer distances, up gentle slopes and stairs or walking on some uneven surfaces. Some standing periods for guide explanations.
