CLOTHES SWAP & STYLE CANBERRA
This Mother’s Day we’re excited to be hosting our next Clothes Swap & Style event. In support of ABC TV's upcoming War on Waste series, ABC Radio Canberra will be at the swap talking to the host and willing guests about swapping. As the event is going to include seasonal styling tips, swapping, fun, bubbly and nibbles, it’ll be a perfect mother-daughter activity and also something to do with friends. The swap is for everyone and ALL dress sizes.
Besides being a fun way to zhuzh up your wardrobe, the reason we host clothes swaps is to reduce clothing waste. In Australia, we generate 6000 kilograms of clothing waste every 10 minutes (ABC TV). Donating our unwanted items to the op shops does not entirely solve the problem because only a relatively small percentage gets sold. Majority of donations will eventually end up in a landfill. For this reason, swapping instead of buying brand new clothes is an exciting way to minmise waste.
There will also be style hack demonstrations to show you how to reuse your clothes in multiple seasons whilst being stylish. It’s going to be amazing and we look forward to seeing you there!
HOW THE SWAP WORKS
1. Come with 1 – 12 items of clothing or accessories to add to the swap collection pool.
2. After the welcome and brief styling workshop by the host, swap shopping will officially begin. Guests can start browsing, picking and trying on any garments and accessories and then take home as much as they like.
3. At the end of the swap, participants can choose to take home remaining items they brought that have not been taken or they can leave them at the swap to be donated to organisations or people in need.
