Clinical Excellence Series

Clinical Excellence Series

SMART Spot Education & Therapy ServicesLavington, NSW
Tuesday, Feb 24 from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm AEDT
Overview

A collaborative clinical thinking space for allied health professionals.

At SMART Spot, excellence is our foundation, grounded in research, and it is something we build through shared knowledge, research and critical reflection.

Every fortnight on a Tuesday, we’re opening our doors to a small group of Allied Health Professionals who want to sharpen their clinical edge, stay grounded in research-backed practice, and move beyond surface level PD and into real clinical thinking.

  • This is not a webinar.
  • This is not another generic PD hour.

This is a boutique, immersive, round table clinical forum featuring a four-session deep dive into one clinical theme at a time over four fortnightly sessions. Each session begins with a focused clinical presentation from a SMART Spot team member sharing research, clinical frameworks and what we are seeing in real practice. From there, the space opens into guided conversation and collaborative reflection, allowing clinicians to think together, question assumptions, and integrate multiple perspectives. This creates learning that is alive, grounded and immediately relevant, not just content on a slide.

Each session will include:

  • a brief, guided presentation of key concepts by a SMART Spot clinician
  • shared discussion and reflection
  • space to think together about what we’re seeing in practice
  • integration of clinical experience, research, and lived experience

Join us for a behind-the-scenes look at how we approach evidence-based paediatric care.

You’re learning inside a clinic known for:

✔ Strong diagnostic reasoning

✔ Boutique, high-support service delivery with whole-child understanding

✔ Heavy experience with autism, early language, literacy & speech sounds

✔ Neurodiversity affirming, relationship-based practice

✔ Real-world application

Instead of waiting for a full day course or trying to implement PD off the back of a slide deck, you get real-time learning every fortnight, building skill week by week with a consistent topic for four sessions giving you both depth and momentum.

  • Sessions are held in person at our clinic.
  • Recordings are available for those who need flexibility.

PDA Clinical Series

Josette Godde will be presenting her clinical learnings across all four sessions drawing on research, real-world formulation, and her work supporting PDA-profile children and families within a neurodiversity affirming and nervous-system-informed clinic. Each session begins with a focused clinical presentation from Josette, followed by collaborative discussion and shared clinical reasoning.

Session 1 - Understanding PDA
Josette introduces PDA through a nervous-system lens, reframing it as a threat-based presentation. She will share how PDA presents across development, why it is often missed, and how to recognise the full constellation of traits beyond demand avoidance.

Session 2 - Assessment
Josette will explore how to assess capacity, not just skills, including how to use tools such as the EDA-8 to understand patterns of demand avoidance without over-pathologising. Clinicians will learn how to adapt assessment methods and triangulate information across home, school and clinic to reach ethical, accurate formulations.

Session 3 - Therapy Planning
Josette will share why traditional therapy approaches often escalate PDA and how to design sessions that prioritise access, regulation and collaboration. She will demonstrate how to structure therapy, write goals and measure progress in ways that protect the nervous system and the therapeutic relationship.

Session 4 - Long-Term Outcomes
Josette will focus on self-advocacy, family coaching and school systems, showing how clinicians can reduce long-term burnout and distress. She will also share how to write reports and recommendations that support autonomy, wellbeing and sustainable outcomes beyond the therapy room.

Dates for each session:
Session 1: 24.02.2026
Session 2: 10.03.2026
Session 3: 24.03.2026
Session 4: 07.04.2026
