Event Details

EVENT

The City of Stirling's biennial Art Award and Exhibition is a community based event which encourages local and Western Australian artists to enter their original work in the competition and be exhibited to the public. With category prizes judged by an industry panel, the exhibition is the perfect opportunity for artists to interact with the local arts community, as well as exhibit and sell their work.

ENTERING THE AWARD

Western Australian artists are invited to submit one entry into the City's Art Award. All works must be the artist's original work and have been executed in the 12 months prior to the 4 September 2017.

Entries will close at 4pm, 4 September 2017.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Entries

1.            Entries close 4.00pm, Monday 4 September 2017. No late entries will be accepted.

2.            Due to limited exhibition space, only a maximum of 200 works will be selected for display.  The Curator reserves the right to make the final decision on works to be exhibited.

3.            The work must be the artist’s original work and have been executed in the 12 months prior to 4 September 2017.

4.            Entries are limited to one per artist.  All accepted entries will automatically be entered into the Acquisitive First Prize and People's Choice Award.  Where applicable, entries will be automatically entered into the Emerging Artist and Local Artist Awards.

5.            Each artist should enter as an individual and hand-deliver or courier the work themselves.

6.            A non-refundable fee of $20 must accompany the entry form.

7.            The maximum size of 2D entries (including frame) will not exceed 1m x 1m. The weight of the entry     must not exceed 15kg.

8.            The maximum size of 3D sculpture entries should not exceed 1m in any direction. The weight of the entry must not exceed 25kg. All 3D sculpture artists are required to attach a photo or image of their work to their entry form. Should assembly be required, the artist must assist with the work's installation.

9.            All artworks must be suitably presented for hanging; 2D works must be dry with properly affixed 'D' rings and firmly attached hanging wire. The Curator has the right to refuse works deemed not suitable for hanging.

10.          Diptych/Triptych works will not be accepted.

11.          All work submitted must be clearly labelled with the artist's full name, title and category upon delivery.

12.          All required freight charges to and from the venue is the responsibility of the artist.

Sales

13.          All works must be for sale. A 25% commission will be charged on all sales made during the exhibition and should be included in the price.

14.          The City offers no guarantee of sale.

15.          If an artwork is sold, it is the artists' responsibility to supply a valid tax invoice to the City for the sale amount (minus the City's commission). Payment for sold artworks will be administered by the City within 30 days of receiving the invoice.

16.          If the artist:

•             Has an ABN and is registered for GST, GST must be included in the sale price;

•             Has an ABN and is not registered for GST, GST must not be included in the sale price;

•             Does not have an ABN and deems themselves to be a hobbyist, they must provide a signed Statement by Supplier Form from the ATO. Failure to do so will result in the City of Stirling withholding 48% of the sale price (forms are available for download from our website).

Categories

17.          The winning entry for the Acquisitive First Prize will become the property of the City of Stirling and will be paid the $5,000 prize money regardless of the artist's sale price.

18.          All entries will be eligible for the Acquisitive First Prize and People's Choice Prize.

19.          To be eligible for the Local Artist Award, the artist must live within the City of Stirling.

20.          To be eligible for the Emerging Artist Award, the artist must be aged between 16 - 25 years (as of 5 June 2017).

General

21.          The City of Stirling will exercise reasonable care and will insure the works for the duration of the exhibition. The insurance of work in transit is the responsibility of the artist.

22.          Artists' name and addresses will automatically be added to the City of Stirling's Art and Events mailing list. Contact details will not be given to any third party.

23.          The Judge’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. The Awards will be announced by the Mayor of the City of Stirling (or his representative) at the Official Opening.

24.          Entrants agree to allow reproduction of their work in part or in whole for publicity and promotional purposes only. The City will attribute the artist wherever practical.

25.          Artworks not collected by the collection date will become the property of the City of Stirling and may be disposed of unless mutually agreed to between the City and the artist.
