Event description
This is a training session on using the iNaturalist App. This app will be used to observe plants and wildlife in the City Nature Challenge.

About this Event

Get involved in the City Nature Challenge and help map biodiversity in your local area. Learn how to use the iNaturalist app and contribute to our understanding of nature in the city.

From 30 April to 3 May 2021, eight Eastern Melbourne municipalities will be joining forces to participate in the global City Nature Challenge (Boroondara, Stonnington, Whitehorse, Knox, Manningham, Monash, Maroondah and Greater Dandenong). You are invited to take part in the challenge by taking photos of wild plants and animals you see in these Council areas, and uploading them to the iNaturalist app.

Over the four days of the challenge, you will be joining cities around the world in using the app to connect with nature, document wild animals and plants that live and grow in our local areas and contribute to our understanding of urban biodiversity.

To prepare for the challenge, Boroondara and Stonnington are hosting this online iNaturalist training session for those not familiar with this type of app. During the session, ecologist Dr Luis Mata will talk you through how to use the iNaturalist platform and will answer your questions. Attendance of this session is not necessary to participate in the City Nature Challenge. Prior to the webinar you will be sent instructions on how to download the free app and set it up ready for use.

Registrations are essential.
