The City Nature Challenge is back!

For the third year running, Darebin is teaming up with over 25 Councils and environmental groups to represent Greater Melbourne on the global stage in the City Nature Challenge.

From Friday 26 to Monday 29 of April, cities across the globe will come together to document as many observations as possible of all living animals, plants and fungi using the iNaturalist App.

Join Darebin's Bushland Management team and the Friends of Darebin Creek on a morning walk to:

  • Learn how to use iNaturalist to record your observations of nature.
  • Explore Fez's Wetland and learn about local plants and animals and ways to protect them.
  • Be part of the global challenge to increase our understanding of biodiversity.

After the event, you'll be equipped to continue using iNaturalist to document the immense biodiversity in Darebin and the world!

Yout observations will contribute to Darebin's project and the Greater Melbourne Collaboration project.

Get ready:

  • We encourage you to download the free iNaturalist App prior to the event, however this is not essential to attend the session.
  • Dress appropriately for an outdoor walk, including sturdy shoes for uneven terrain.
  • Be sun smart
  • Bring a water bottle
  • Be prepared for potential wet weather
  • Ensure your phone is fully charged
