Chinese Ink-Brush Painting Workshop

Manning Regional Art GalleryTaree, NSW
Saturday, Feb 21 from 10 am to 2 pm AEDT
Overview

An introduction to traditional Chinese ink-brush painting of flowers with Artist, Dr Fan Dongwang

In support of Dr Christian Thompson's House of Gold exhibition from M&GNSW currently showing at Manning Regional Art Gallery, expand your knowledge on Chinese culture through the art of Chinese Ink-Brush Painting. Learn the basics of painting plum blossoms in an art class for adults with award winning artist Fan Dongwang.

Participants will explore simple yet expressive brush strokes on rice paper to create beautiful Chinese flower paintings. The workshop will also introduce Chinese philosophy and aesthetics as they relate to painting. This elegant brush technique is taught in a way that is easy to understand, meditative, enjoyable, and relaxing, making it suitable for beginners.

The plum tree is renowned for bursting into a riot of blossoms exuding an otherworldly exquisiteness and beautiful elegance during the desolation of winter. In Chinese culture it serves as a metaphor for inner beauty and humble display under adverse conditions.

All materials included. This is a subsidised workshop thanks to Museums & Galleries of NSW.
