Chinese Calligraphy Workshops

Immerse yourself in the art of Chinese brush strokes and master the creation of ancient Chinese pictograms

Come along to learn about the evolution of Chinese characters and become familiar with the essential tools of the craft - writing brush, ink, rice paper, and ink slab. You’ll learn proper brush handling techniques to practice basic strokes (horizontal line, vertical line and circle), Chinese pictograms (inscriptions) and small seal script.

Dates: The workshops will be held on the first Saturday of each month from 10.30am to 12.00pm. 7/2, 7/3, 18/4 (rescheduled from 4/4) and 2/5.

You only need to register once to be able to attend all sessions.

Please note: participants must bring their own calligraphy brushes.

Workshop 1: tree, woods, forest (drawing: woods)

Workshop 2: stone, hill, mountain (drawing: rock/hills)

Workshop 3: rice, grain, fruit (drawing: fruits)

Workshop 4: branch of tree, bamboo, pen (drawing; bamboo)

• You must be a Library member to attend. Library membership is free and you can sign up at any branch or online today.
• Bookings are essential and payment of the fee will be required at the time of booking.
• You only need to register once to be able to attend the full program.
• Refund Policy: We understand that planning ahead can be challenging in these uncertain times, and sometimes things come up. For tickets purchased directly through Eventbrite, cancellations made up to 1 day before the event start date will receive a refund, minus Eventbrite’s fees. Cancellations after this period will not be eligible for a refund. Only tickets purchased directly via Eventbrite are eligible for a refund.
• Event Cancellation: In the case of an event cancellation, tickets purchased directly through Eventbrite will be refunded to the original payment method. Tickets purchased via the kiosk at the library will be credited back to your library card.
• If you are unable to attend the program, please cancel your ticket as soon as possible. This will enable others to participate.
• Your ticket may be cancelled by the organiser without further notice.
• Please arrive 10 minutes early to allow the event to run on time.
• Due to the safety and enjoyment of participants, we are unable to admit latecomers to the room after the start time.

• Your attendance at events supported by Randwick City Council may be digitally recorded through photographs and/or video recordings.
