Children in the Fire is a powerful and deeply moving 2025 documentary directed by Evgeny Afineevsky, the acclaimed filmmaker behind the Oscar-nominated *Winter on Fire*.

Ukrainian children have been living through war for the fourth consecutive year: attending school under air-raid sirens, growing up faster than they should, and learning to cope while the world around them falls apart.

To ensure the voices of Ukrainian children are not lost amid headlines and statistics, the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) has partnered with Ukrainian-American director Evgeny Afineevsky as part of the global campaign Stand With Ukraine: Protect Future Generations. The collaboration will showcase Afineevsky’s documentary Children in the Fire.

Afineevsky’s new documentary tells the stories of eight Ukrainian children whose childhoods were shattered by war — through occupation, deportation, injuries, and the loss of loved ones.

“When a war lasts for years, there is a risk that human stories get buried under headlines and analytics. For UWC, this partnership is a way to keep the focus on Ukrainian children, who are paying too high a price for this war, and ensure the world continues to hear them,” said UWC President Paul Grod.

The film centers on teenagers and children from Mariupol, Nova Kakhovka, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Odesa regions, who experienced forced deportation to Russia, captivity, severe injuries from missile strikes, and the struggle to survive under occupation.

Tonight's screening offers a rare opportunity to engage with these stories directly—to listen, reflect, and carry forward the courage of Ukraine's children.

«Діти у вогні» — це потужний і глибоко зворушливий документальний фільм 2025 року режисера Євгена Афінеєвського, визнаного кінематографіста, автора номінованого на «Оскар» фільму «Зима у вогні».

Українські діти вже четвертий рік поспіль живуть у стані війни: навчаються під звуки повітряних тривог, дорослішають надто рано та вчаться виживати, поки світ навколо них руйнується.
Щоб голоси українських дітей не загубилися серед заголовків новин і сухої статистики, Світовий Конґрес Українців (СКУ) у межах глобальної кампанії Stand With Ukraine: Protect Future Generations об’єднався з українсько-американським режисером Євгеном Афінеєвським. У межах цієї співпраці буде представлено документальний фільм Афінеєвського «Діти у вогні».

Нова стрічка Афінеєвського розповідає історії восьми українських дітей, чиє дитинство було зруйноване війною — через окупацію, депортацію, поранення та втрату близьких.

«Коли війна триває роками, існує ризик, що людські історії губляться під тягарем заголовків і аналітики. Для СКУ це партнерство є способом зберегти фокус на українських дітях, які платять надто високу ціну за цю війну, і забезпечити, щоб світ і надалі чув їхні голоси», — зазначив президент СКУ Павло Ґрод.

Фільм зосереджується на підлітках і дітях з Маріуполя, Нової Каховки, Донеччини, Харківщини, Запорізької та Одеської областей, які пережили примусову депортацію до Росії, полон, тяжкі поранення внаслідок ракетних ударів та боротьбу за виживання в умовах окупації.
