Chess Club: Introduction to chess workshops
Join us for a series of weekly chess classes at Leichhardt Library.
Over the course of the month, you will learn basic chess rules and strategy from the experts at Sydney Academy of Chess. Following the class, attendees are invited to socialise, play, and put their chess skills to the test!
Runs on Wednesdays 4, 11, 18, 25 March between10:30 – 11:30 am.
- Week 1 – Wednesday 4 March: Names and movements of chess pieces; how to set up the board and chess coordinates.
- Week 2 – Wednesday 11 March: Check and checkmate; special rules including promotion and en passant.
- Week 3 – Wednesday 18 March: Essential endgames and how to checkmate with limited pieces.
- Week 4 – Wednesday 25 March: Opening principles; basic objectives of the opening; examining Fool’s Mate and Scholar’s Mate.

About the Facilitator
SYDNEY ACADEMY OF CHESS is a team of people with one passion in common: teaching chess to others. Sydney Academy of Chess was one of the first companies in Australia devoted to specialising in chess coaching and other chess services. They have been teaching in NSW for 24 years.
About the Venue
LEICHHARDT LIBRARY is accessible from street level and via lift from the car park.
