Chemostyle Hat-Making Workshop
Event Information
About this event
It's never a good time to lose your hair, but summer can be difficult for people who want to cover up, be stylish and stay cool while they endure the trauma of hair loss. Knitted hats are too warm, and not everyone wants to wear a headscarf or turban. When I was going through chemo, I found that unlined jersey knit hats in natural fibres were the best choice for me. They are also easy to sew.
As part of the development of a new social enterprise to support cancer patients, I'm running another workshop to make more hats to distribute for free to people going through treatment this summer. If you can donate some of your time, we can make hats to donate and have a fun day doing something good.
If you're going through treatment that causes hair loss, or if you have a particular person or cancer centre in mind, you're very welcome to come and make hats for yourself or your cause. All remaining hats will be distributed for free through local cancer hospitals and support networks.
BYO sewing machine (and overlocker if you have one). If you have any hat-sized offcuts of cotton, bamboo, viscose or linen jersey - with or without spandex - that you'd like to donate, please bring it along.
Please note, that this is not a "learn to sew" workshop. You need to be able to use a sewing machine and/or overlocker.
BYO lunch or bring a small plate to share. Tea and Coffee (and a few plates) provided.
