About Kim Scott:

Noongar writer, Kim Scott was the first Indigenous writer to win the Miles Franklin Award in 2000 for his work Benang: From the Heart. Then, in 2011 he won a second time for his novel That Deadman Dance. Since then, he has utilised fiction as a pathway to truth, inhabiting a range of guises to interrogate the complex and messy frontier history of colonial encounters.


About Tony Birch:

Tony Birch holds the Boisbouvier Chair in Australian Literature at Melbourne University. He is the author of four novels, five short fiction collections and two books of poetry. His most recent novel is Women and Children.


About Ruby Lowe:

Dr Ruby Lowe co-edited Kim Scott: Readers, Language, Interpretation with Philip Morrissey and Marion Campbell (UWAP, 2019) and has been published in The Journal of History of Ideas and Sydney Review of Books. Lowe completed her PhD at NYU, a postdoctoral fellowship at UC Berkeley and is currently teaching at The University of Melbourne. Lowe is currently completing her first monograph The Speech Without Doors: John Milton and the Tradition of Print Oratory.


The Writers on Writers series features a breadth of leading writers as they reflect on other Australian writers who have inspired and fascinated them. Provocative and crisp, these books start a fresh conversation between past and present, shed new light on the craft of writing, and introduce some intriguing and talented authors and their work.
