Description
The evening commences with welcome nibbles and softdrinks followed by the screening of the telemovie, RIOT. This movie shines a spotlight on Australia’s 1970s Gay Rights Movement and the passionate individuals who were unwavering in their fight for decriminalisation, recognition and equality. It deals with the first Mardi Gras on 24 June 1978 which resulted in the arrest of 53 people in Kings Cross. At the conclusion of the screening, Mother Inferior of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence will lead attendees to the El Alamein Fountain in Fitzroy Gardens for the laying of 53 candles in recognition of those arrested in Darlinghurst Road, Kings Cross.
