Event description
A consumer information sessions to provide people living with pain more information about the use of medicinal cannabis to help manage pain.

About this Event

Many consumers report feeling confused about medicinal cannabis use for the relief of chronic pain. Questions such as how it works, whether it works, what side effects there may be, and how to access it, are commonplace. The 2018 National Pain Survey showed that an overwhelming number of consumers (75% of respondents) are interested in learning more about the possible uses of medicinal cannabis to help manage their chronic pain.

In keeping with Chronic Pain Australia's mandate to reduce unnecessary suffering and isolation caused by chronic pain in the Australian community, we will be holding consumer information sessions to provide people living with pain more information about the use of medicinal cannabis to help manage pain, as well as information about the Federal Government's medicinal cannabis trial, and how to have a conversation with medical professionals about whether medicinal cannabis may be a way to effectively manage pain.

Topics covered will include:

  • What is medicinal cannabis?
  • What can it be used for?
  • How does it work?
  • Who this treatment is and isn't suitable for?
  • What do we know about its effectiveness?
  • What side-effects are there?
  • Whether it can be legally accessed in Australia.
  • How to navigate the TGA application process.

Light refreshments will be served.

**Please note that Chronic Pain Australia has led the development of these sessions and is being supported in this endeavour by MedLab, a medical research and development facility.  Chronic Pain Australia has undertaken significant due diligence to ensure no conflict of interest arises in relation to these information sessions.  Chronic Pain Australia remains committed to providing Australians living with pain with accurate, robust, and timely information to help them make the best choice for their pain management. For more information, please contact the organiser.**
