Bushfire Planning: How to support your clients (Online module)
Training for community, social and health workers delivering in-home support to help clients plan and prepare for bushfires.
NOTE: It is best to have completed the Bushfire Safety for Workers module before this one.
This online learning module is a free, interactive program that contains important information for people in the community and social services sector or health sector who deliver in home supports.
To equip Community and Social Services and Health Sector workers with bushfire planning information and skills to support their clients and patients in bushfire risk areas. This training is for everyone who works with clients in high risk areas. This training module is part of CFA’s Fire Ready for Community Service Providers program.
The content is broken up into seven key areas. The focus is on prompting conversations about bushfire planning and having some information to be able to answer questions from clients.
The content contains interactive scenarios, videos and questions for participants to answer about bushfire safety and planning. The content has been taken form CFA’s key bushfire safety messages that is aimed to assist the public in acting safely over summer and understanding what to do based on the Fire Danger Ratings.
It has been developed in collaboration with representatives from the Community and Social Services sector. There is no assessment as part of this module. The module has a learning resource called the Fire Ready Guide for Community Workers that provides all the key information and is a key reference once the course is completed.Timing: Allow up to an hour to complete, including a short sign-in process.
You can access a certificate at the end of the session to verify completion. The learning module is not formally accredited or competency based, it is an awareness session only.

- Show awareness of where to find the resources available to assist their clients to develop a bushfire survival plan
- Recognise when, how and where to refer a client for more assistance
- Understand how to support clients to prepare a bushfire survival plan that is appropriate to their needs.
Organisational prerequisites
Although not a pre-requisite, CFA recommends that the Bushfire Safety for Workers module is completed prior to this module.
CFA recommends anyone who works with clients in high bushfire risk areas over summer completes this session. CFA urges Community and Social Services and Health Sector employers and employer groups to consider policies that make this mandatory in the workplace.
