Bush Gothic at Open Studio - Ticketed Feature Event
Event Information
About this event
Bush Gothic is a postmodern bush band. And what, exactly does that mean?
They have been compared to the psychological thriller ‘Wake in Fright’, awarded 5 STARS by BBC Music Magazine and lauded for ‘Rescuing Australian folk from the world of beards and blue jeans’ by The Age. The Guardian described fiddle-singer and band leader Jenny M. Thomas as an ‘Edgy rising folk star’ and together with double bassist Dan Witton and drummer Chris Lewis they destroy all preconceived notions of the Australian folk music tradition. Bush Gothic trail a string of high profile international appearances behind them. Their mash up of high art and low culture bring musical influences ranging from minimalist electro to experimental breakbeat.
After a year of film making and collaboration with the Welsh National Eisteddfod they are celebrating their return to live performance with a special concert at one of the venues where it all began. Get ready to have your homely and totally archaic notions of Australian folk music exploded.
‘The outfit changing the face of classic Australian folklore songs. Bush Gothic’s interpretations sear with power and truth. Australia’s own Bush Gothic is incomparable.’ Forte Magazine
