About this event

  • 1 day 7 hours

This is an interactive 2-day workshop facilitated by Denise Luscombe (ECI Consultant, Director Postural Care Australia, Pediatric Physiotherapist and Board Member PRECI) with support from Flinders University.

Although our context for the provision of services has changed in Australia, the overall aim of early childhood intervention hasn’t. The aim of early childhood intervention is to ensure that the parents, and/or other key caregivers, are able to provide young children with developmental disabilities with experiences and opportunities that support their learning and development and enables them to participate meaningfully at home and in their community.

This workshop will enable participants to unpack and explore evidence-informed practices in early childhood intervention. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on their current practice, discuss and consider the role of a key worker in supporting capacity building and be provided with practical strategies that can be implemented immediately in their everyday practice with families and others.

Practices that will be explored include, but will not be limited to, working in partnership with the family, understanding their day and how to support child engagement and parent-child interaction, coaching to build family capacity, and the use of routines-based and interest-based practice.
