Building emotional resilience DISCUSSION
Free parent discussion group with Mark Le Messurier about practical strategies to coach kids toward optimism and strength
The term resilience is used to describe a person's capacity to cope with change or challenge, and to bounce back with optimism. It is a prized quality as it positions us to deal with the inevitable hiccups, setbacks, shocks, and disasters that await us in the future.
Today, we understand that developing resilient qualities in our children is more than good luck! It is a process that is well researched and thoroughly understood. Firstly, it requires our thoughtful commitment to model these strategies, every day, in front of our kids. We are the guardians of a precious space called, ‘childhood’, where our modelling can enable or hinder the growth of their resilient capacities. Secondly, the growth of our children’s emotional awareness requires us to appreciate the interplay between their temperament, past experiences, our modelling, and the home environment we’ve have created. It is through both subtle and explicit coaching that children gradually learn the intricacies of resilience.
This workshop presents a collection of very PRACTICAL resilience building ideas. I call them the 10-C's and you’ll adore them. They provide a guide for parents, caregivers, and educators to become the best resilience coach for children. Here’s the thing: isn't it curious that our children's resilience hinges on our knowledge, our own resilience, and how we model it over the first 20 years of their lives? They are dependent on us knowing how to invest and assist.
