Description
Join us this month for MAEVe's seminar with A/Prof Kylie Smith from the Youth Research Centre at the University of Melbourne, and Sophie Gale, City of Melbourne, who will be discussing Building Children’s Resilience through Respectful and Equitable Relationships Pilot Project
Literature shows that gender-based violence prevention policies and programs are being implemented nationally and internationally within primary and secondary school settings, but programs for early childhood services are only beginning to emerge. This presentation will showcase the Building Children’s Resilience through Respectful and Equitable Relationships Pilot Project which took place at a City of Melbourne run children’s centre in 2017.
This pilot explored ways to co-design, implement and evaluate a whole of service prevention of violence against women program in an early childhood setting. This project was a collaboration between the City of Melbourne, children, families and educators and researchers in the Melbourne Graduate School of Education and Victoria University.
Kylie Smith is a Research Fellow and Senior Lecturer. She has been active in early years education and policy development for the last 21 years and, for the past 16 years, has focused on researching how theory and practice can challenge the operation of equity for young children in classrooms, community spaces and government policy.
