Buckingham House Guided Tour

Buckingham House Guided Tour

Overview

Explore the stories behind the walls of Buckingham House and the Old Wanneroo Schoolhouse on a fascinating guided tour.

Step back in time this April as part of the 2026 Australian Heritage Festival, an annual state-wide celebration of our shared history and community stories. The theme for this year’s festival is Change - exploring how the past continues to shape who we are today and how our heritage evolves.

Join us for a guided tour through Buckingham House and the Old Wanneroo Schoolhouse, two of Wanneroo’s most cherished heritage sites.

Built between the 1880s and 1890s by pastoralist John Buckingham, Buckingham House was home to early settler families and later played a central role in local dairying and farming before becoming a preserved homestead for the community to enjoy. The nearby Old Wanneroo Schoolhouse (opened in 1899) offers a glimpse into early classroom life, complete with dunce hats and slate boards.

During this engaging tour, a knowledgeable guide will lead you through the rooms and grounds, sharing stories of the families who lived here, period-era school experiences, and how life in early Wanneroo has shaped our local community. There’ll be plenty of opportunities to explore the homestead rooms, view historic artefacts, and gain insight into everyday life in WA during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

This event is suitable for history enthusiasts of all ages and is FREE to attend as part of the Australian Heritage Festival program. Bookings are recommended.

Come discover the journeys, challenges and changes that helped shape Wanneroo — and see history come to life at Buckingham House!
